Politics: GOP chairman stays on for another term

By Jason Lesley

Though he sought a replacement, Randy Hollister has agreed to serve another two-year term as chairman of the Georgetown County Republican Party.

Hollister was re-elected Saturday during the party’s convention at the county courthouse along with two new vice chairmen to share the workload. Art Caswell will be vice chairman of fundraising and events, and Tom Olejniczak, vice chairman of precinct operations.

“I was thinking this would be a good time to bring someone else in with new ideas and new energy,” Hollister said. “I talked with several people who would be real good candidates, but for one reason or another none could do it at this time. In the last few weeks we looked at alternatives to build structure within the organization and divide up the work.”

With a presidential primary next year, Caswell will help with organizing events and logistics. Olejniczak, of the Spring Gully precinct in the western part of the county, has been active in the party phone bank and will coordinate efforts and activities in the precincts. Other officers include: Jerry Rovner, state committeeman; Niki Howard, secretary; and Karol Anderson, treasurer. All will serve two-year terms.

Hollister said a new party chairman could have eased into the job this year. Georgetown City Council elections are the only contests scheduled. “That’s why they set up our reorganization on the year after the general election,” he said. “It gives us a chance to figure out what we did right, did wrong, regroup and get ready for the next major election.”

Hollister said Republicans will get a practice run in the Georgetown election but won’t have to deal with a primary with just three candidates filing for the three seats.

Precinct presidents and committeemen elected Saturday include:

Murrells Inlet 1: Anita Lampley and Renee Goldfinch;

Murrells Inlet 2: John and Judy Clarke;

Murrells Inlet 3: Gerald Kelly;

Pawleys Island 2: Art Caswell and Brian Shult;

Pawleys Island 3: Charles Pinson and Susan Rovner;

Pawleys Island 5: Joyce and Jim Jerow.

Officers for Pawleys Island precincts 1 and 4 will be determined later, Hollister said.

State GOP convention delegates include: Karol Anderson, Art and Linda Caswell, Lance Duvall, Jim and Joyce Jerow, Jerry and Susan Rovner, Bobby Walters, Tom Winslow, Shult and Hollister.

Alternates include: Brenda Bessinger, Louie Cameron, Ron Charlton, John and Judy Clarke, Helen Haendel, Kathy Harrelson, Debbie Hollister, Niki Howard, Ruthann Howard, David Maring and Charles Smith.
