Events: Tropical storm blows out Pawleys Pavilion Reunion

Tickets to this year’s Pawleys Pavilion Reunion will be honored next year, according to Annette Perreault, executive director of Habitat for Humanity in Georgetown County.

The annual ode to beach music and the shag featuring The Tams was cancelled due to predictions of wind and rain from a tropical storm Saturday. The initial plan was to erect a 5,000-square-foot tent over the band and the dance floor at the Pawleys Island Nature Park, across the street from the site of the last of the island’s pavilions. After review predictions of 40 mph winds with Pawleys Island Police and Midway Fire and Rescue, that idea was scrapped.

The band played Saturday at Habitat’s new ReStore location in the Winyah Shopping Center in Georgetown for about 150 sponsors and volunteers.

Perreault said Habitat directors will consider bringing The Tams back next May for the reunion.
