Tourism: New director hired to work with county and town

The director of Visit Anderson will take over a tourism director for Georgetown County next month. Jennifer Norman will replace Lauren Joseph, who left in February to become marketing director at Brookgreen Gardens.

The director is hired by the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce, but funded by Georgetown County to provide staff support to the Tourism Management Commission. Last year, the town of Pawleys Island also contracted with the chamber for tourism marketing help.

Chamber president Beth Stedman announced Norman’s hiring Wednesday.

Norman has worked in Anderson since 2012. She has also held tourism marketing positions in Georgia. She earned her Tourism Marketing Professional designation from the Southeast Tourism Society. She is currently pursuing certification as a sports event executive.

Her husband, William Norman, is a professor of tourism at Clemson University. He served on a Sea Grant team studying the waterfronts in Georgetown and Murrells Inlet.
