Waccamaw Library: Annual book sale includes silent auction
Volunteers spent the first part of this week sorting about 10,000 books in preparation for the highly anticipated Friends of the Waccamaw Library annual summer book sale.
The sale, at St. Paul’s Waccamaw United Methodist Church in Litchfield, opens to the public on Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
A new addition to this year’s sale is a short list of silent auction items. The auctions began during Friends Night on Thursday and close at 1 p.m. Friday.
Here’s what you need to know about the items up for bid:
Autographed first edition copy of “Coming Through: Voices of a South Carolina Gullah Community from WPA Oral Histories.” Interviews collected by Genevieve W. Chandler of Murrells Inlet. Editors include Chandler’s daughter, Genevieve “Sister” Peterkin, an inlet resident who died last year.
The book is signed by on the title page by Peterkin, without an inscription.
Standard size hardcover, 391 pages. Published in 2008.
