Business: Chamber of Commerce starts president search

Annette Medlin will step down as president of the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce, the organization announced Friday.

In an e-mail to members, the Chamber president, Will Howard, said Medlin "has decided to take on a new challenge which we are supportive of."

Medlin became president in January 2005. That was "a time when structure, support and financial stability were not adjectives used to describe our Chamber," Howard said.

During Medlin's tenure, the Chamber reached agreement with Georgetown County to manage its tourism marketing. She also started other initiatives, such as the George Goes Green trade event that ran for a couple of years and the recent Coastal Brew Fest that was held for the first time last week.

Howard said the Chamber has formed a search committee of board members and business members to start looking for Medlin's replacement.
