Politics: Randy Hollister quits District 108 race

Randy Hollister announced Monday he is giving up his campaign for the Republican nomination in House District 108. He was one of two Republicans actively campaigning to fill the seat now held by State Rep. Kevin Ryan.

In an e-mail to supporters, Hollister said:

"After careful consideration, I have decided not to become a candidate to represent District 108 in the South Carolina House of Representatives when the filing period opens March 16, 2012.

"The many words of encouragement and generous offers of volunteer time and financial support have been very humbling to Debbie and me, and I regret disappointing those who wanted me to run. In the end, I just could not commit the time required to campaign and to serve.

"I pledge to you that I will remain involved in the discourse and do what I can from outside the legislature to influence responsible, conservative public policy."

His decision leaves Stephen Goldfinch as the only declared candidate for the nomination. Others have expressed interest, but stopped short of announcing their campaign.
