Crime: Pawleys teen found shot to death

A Pawleys Island area man found dead early Friday morning had multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

James Earl Richardson Jr., 18, was found lying face down on the side of Parkersville Road near Julian Rutledge Drive around 12:45 a.m. He had no pulse, according to the first deputy who arrived on the scene.

The coroner found "multiple gunshot wounds to the torso," according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said they were told Richardson, known as “Scooby” and a student at Waccamaw High, had argued with another Pawleys Island area man earlier in the evening.

Another witness said Richardson and another man were hanging out at a club earlier.

An autopy was scheduled for Friday morning, but had not begun by mid afternoon, according to Lt. T.L. Staub, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

Investigators were continuing to follow up on leads Friday afternoon, he said.

Anyone with information about the homicide can call the sheriff’s office at 546-5101, or send an anonymous tip by text message to 274637. Text GCSOTIP followed by the message.
