Pawleys Island: Free oil change for single moms
Even in the golden era of service stations, there was never service like this: brunch and childcare while your oil is changed and your car is washed.
That’s the service Pawleys Island Community Church is offering to single mothers on Saturday.
“Single moms often wear the hats of both mom and dad and frequently they are rearing children with limited resources,” said Senior Pastor Don Williams. “Their vehicles, which are vital to their families, often go unattended with busy schedules and all that they are responsible for.”
He got the idea from a fellow pastor in Kentucky. The event is a partnership with JP’s Auto Sales and Pennzoil.
“We thought it would be a great gift to these incredible moms, especially right before the holiday season when they may be traveling,” Williams said.
The event is open to single moms, widows and wives of military personnel on deployment.
From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., moms can bring their vehicles and their kids to the church. A driver will take the vehicle to JP’s, which will change the oil, top off the fluids and check the tire pressure.
Moms will get brunch and their children will be entertained while the work is done.
But wait, there’s more.
After the oil change, members of the church student ministries will wash and vacuum the vehicles.
“We want to serve the single moms in our community who are truly heroes for all that they do,” Williams said. “Hopefully, the oil change will be a blessing to them and maybe they can build community with some other single moms while they are here.”
