Pawleys Island: 5 seats plus 5 candidates = No election The deadline passed Monday to file for November’s election for Pawleys Island Town Council with only the five incumbents registered. That means the town won’t have to hold an election, provided no one registers as a write-in candidate by Aug. 30. “We’re keeping our fingers crossed,” said Donna Mahn, Georgetown County’s director of elections. There has never been a petition candidate for the nonpartisan council election. Mayor Bill Otis and Council Members Mike Adams, Mary McAllister, Glennie Tarbox and Sarah Zimmerman filed for another two-year term. Pawleys Island hasn’t held an election since 2005 and it hasn’t had any contested races since 2003, the same year state law changed to allow towns to avoid the expense of holding uncontested elections.
