Tourism: No decision on marketing director

From Staff Reports
Coastal Observer

Members of the Georgetown County Tourism Management Commission were told the name of the new marketing director would be announced Friday, but the deadline passed with no announcement.

The director will be hired by the Chamber of Commerce but work exclusively for the commission. The chamber currently provides staff support for the commission.

Annette Medlin, president of the Chamber of Commerce, told members of the Tourism Management Commission on Thursday she planned to make an offer to one of the two finalists Friday morning and would announce the new director in the afternoon.

"It's good. It's all good," Medlin said.

Medlin interviewed four candidates for the position last month and picked Tee Miller of Georgetown, an economic development and business strategy consultant, and Meredith Hart of Myrtle Beach, a community liaison with WBTW News, as the top two.

Last week, Medlin was ready to check references and said she planned to make an offer early this week, but she left for Mexico and didn’t get back until late Wednesday.

Commission members didn't interview the candidates, but they sent their recommendations to Medlin, said Helen Benso, who chairs the commission.

The commission wants to have someone at work in the new role by Dec. 1.
