Sports: Georgetown rolls over struggling Warriors

By Roger Greene
Coastal Observer

Be it on offense or defense, the Waccamaw High football team could do very little against visiting Georgetown on Friday night.

Georgetown put four touchdowns on the board in the first quarter and never looked back, storming to a 48-0 victory.

The Bulldogs (3-1) scored on all four of their possessions in the opening half, and added an interception return for another score to open a 35-0 lead at halftime. Georgetown rolled up 261 yards of offense during the first two quarters, putting together scoring drives of 99 and 89 yards in the process.

Waccamaw (1-4) managed only 17 total yards in the first half and didn't pick up a first down until 2:52 remained before halftime. The Warriors wouldn't get another first down until late in the fourth quarter and all four of their turnovers in the game resulted in Georgetown scores.

Waccamaw had just 59 total yards in the game. Nick Davis led the offense, rushing for 39 yards. The Warriors will have a bye next week before opening up their Region VIII-AA slate on Sept. 30 against visiting Mullins.
