Sports: Waccamaw volleyball team advances in playoffs

By Roger Greene

The Waccamaw High volleyball team made it 16 straight with a 3-0 win over Hanahan in the second round of the Class AA volleyball playoffs last night.

The Warriors will play again at home on Monday.

Waccamaw took the first game 25-16 with Ainsleigh Boothe going up for a kill at game-point.

The visitors had a 20-19 lead before losing a serve in the second game. The Warriors put up 5 straight points behind the serve of Melaina Moore to win 25-20.

They took the final game 25-18, punctuated by a match-point kill by Olivia Gay.

Kingstree was no match for the precision of the Waccamaw High volleyball team on Monday night. With a pronounced advantage in skill level, the Warriors wasted little time with the Jaguars, opening the Class AA playoffs with a 3-0 sweep that took less than an hour to complete.

“We wanted to get in and get out,” said Loren Hill, who finished with five kills and three aces. “We played as a team.”
