A 154-foot-high flagpole proposed for a site in Litchfield isn’t a show of patriotism. It’s a way to disguise a cell phone tower. American Tower Corp. is soliciting comments on the project, which calls for placing the tower on a 1,000-square-foot site within the new Georgetown County park.

Grants treat the symptons, but foundation wants to excise poverty's rootsSix agencies have been awarded a share of about $100,000 for programs that address the root causes of poverty in the latest round of grants from the Frances P. Bunnelle Foundation. Attacking poverty from the root is the most effective way to improve the quality of life, but it’s also the most neglected in Georgetown County, said Geales Sands, the foundation’s director.
