A sweep of Academic Magnet on Thursday has the Waccamaw High boys tennis team heading to the state Class AA tennis championship for the ninth year in a row. The Warriors will play Christ Church Episcopal at noon Saturday at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter
This is also the ninth meeting between the Warriors and the Cavaliers. The series was tied at 4-4 after play last year, but the S.C. High School League later ruled one Waccamaw player ineligible and gave the title to Christ Church.
A 3-2 loss at home to Hanahan ended the Waccamaw High boys varsity soccer season Thursday. The Warriors led 1-0 at the half on a goal from Ryan Tiller.
The Hawks equalized in the 42nd minute on a goal by Roberto Medina. Another strike by Tiller reclaimed the lead for Waccamaw, but Medina completed a hat-trick that gave Hanahan the edge with 6 minutes to play.
