Brown traveled from Waco, Texas, to Buffalo, Texas, on Wednesday, completing the 60-mile journey in five hours, including time for breaks.
“Temperatures were a little cooler than they had been,” Brown said. “It was overcast and there was a nice breeze. The countryside was incredible. I must have seen 1,000 head of cattle.”
Brown traveled along Highway 84, a change in his original plan which called for him to leave from Dallas and begin working his way back to the coast on Highway 80.
“On the drive down, my wife and I saw that in parts of Mississippi and Louisiana Highway 80 was in terrible condition,” Brown said. “We had to change things up a bit and Highway 84 was one of the alternate routs we knew we might have to use.”
Brown left a little after 6 a.m. Central time on Wednesday and was done well before noon.
“I stopped three times like I planned,” Brown said. “The shoulder was very wide and there were no conflicts at all with any traffic. I got a chance to talk to several people and they were very nice and supportive of what I’m doing.”
