Protection for large live oaks on residential property was approved by a cautious Georgetown County Planning Commission this week. Members said that while the Waccamaw Neck Tree Protection Overlay Zone is needed, it needs to be limited in scope to win approval from County Council.

It will cost $6 million to $7 million to extend natural gas lines along Waccamaw Neck, according to South Carolina Electric and Gas. The investor-owned utility isn’t optimistic that it will take on the project, but a company official told Pawleys Island Mayor Bill Otis it is still under review.
